40 percent of workers will be temps by the year 2020

According to Intuit, about 40 percent of the U.S. workforce will be contractors or temporary workers by 2020. These workers will function as full-time workers, never being unemployed, but they will work for different companies in quick succession, like other temp workers.
Such workers will increase efficiency, agility and flexibility, according to intuit. They will be less expensive, and they will change the way companies think of employee costs. Temps' ability to control their work-life balance will be a personal asset to them.
Intuit reports that even today, about 25-30 percent of employees are already contingent workers. And 80 percent of large companies plan to hire from this pool in the future.
Many of these workers, particularly in the tech sector, will be contract workers as a personal preference. Additionally, such temp workers will make more money and have greater flexibility versus those who are working full-time for a company, according to Candace Moody, VP of communications for CareerSource, Northeast Florida.
Part of the reason for the shift to contractors versus employees is the change in policies happening with tax rates, minimum wage, health care and various regulations. It has become more cost-efficient to hire a temp worker.
