Amazon to hire 50,000 temporary workers for the holidays

Experts have been speculating on the number of temporary workers that will be contracted for the upcoming holiday season, with many pronouncing moderate to positive gains.
Giving these figures a boost is the news that online retail giant Amazon will be hiring more than 50,000 seasonal employees to staff its fulfillment centers across the country during the holiday months, Reuters reports.
This number is a slight increase over last year, although the retailer would not release those figures, the news source reports. The workers will also help in distribution and fulfilling online orders.
"Temporary associates play a critical role in meeting increased customer demand during the holiday season, and we expect thousands of temporary associates will stay on in full-time positions," Dave Clark, vice president of global customer fulfillment at the company, said in a statement.
Amazon is not the only company planning on hiring more contract workers for the biggest shopping season of the year. Kohl's, Old Navy and Target are just some of the retailers who've already announced plans to bring on seasonal employees.
