CIOs plan to outsource IT labor

HR outsourcing services may see an increase in the amount of temporary employees being requested from businesses across the country. A recent survey of U.S. chief information officers (CIOs) by Harvey Nash, an information technology staffing firm, found CIOs plan to increase their investment in contingent staff.
Conducted online from January to March 2013, the eighth annual survey asked 330 IT leaders about their workplace dynamics. Outsourcing is currently up year-over-year within the information technology field. Of the CIOs polled, 14 percent said more than half of their workforce are contracted employees, which is a 9 percent rise from last year. Forty-two percent reported that they project to increase the total number of workers under flexible contracts, with 38 percent saying they will increase their IT outsourcing this year.
Staffing agencies employing workers with IT skills in mobile technology may see the greatest boost in outsourcing. CIOs believe mobile solutions will rise in demand, with 31 percent saying they are increasing their interest in portable technology.
