Companies search for top talent

New research from Accountemps, a Robert Half firm, found companies are increasing benefits and salaries to attract top talent. They are also testing other strategies, such as recruiting remote workers and paying relocation costs, to find the best candidates possible.
"Competition for highly skilled workers remains intense in many specialties," said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps. One of the skill sets in high demand is the ability to work with big data in a meaningful way, according to a separate survey by TEKsystems.
Some needs are immediate and cannot wait for recruitment processes and training programs to be complete. In these cases, companies often hire temporary workers. Of the chief financial officers surveyed by Accountemps, 26 percent reported their organizations rely on contingent employees to fill skills gaps within the workforce. This solution can be ideal both for immediate needs and for seasonal requirements, such as working on end-of-year reports or tax matters.
Temporary and contract workers can also be more cost-effective for an organization than raising salaries for permanent workers, particularly in cases where the need for talent may not be long term. Hiring temporary help for projects rather than filling a permanent position can save companies money and draw skilled workers at the same time.
