Golf tournament creates job opportunities

Phil Mickelson was victorious in the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament, which concluded last week. The New York Times reports that with the win, he passes Hall of Famer Tom Watson on the list of all-time tour victories, and also successfully defeated foe Tiger Woods for the fifth straight time.
However, the tournament may have inadvertently produced some other winners who the media isn't likely to recognize. KION-TV reports that Barry Dowden and Bill Reinhard, both unemployed men in their 60s, worked as temporary store greeters at the Pro-Am.
The tournament created 600 temporary worker positions in all for the duration of the event (one week), and Dowden and Reinhard are hoping to extend their tenures to full-time positions.
"It's enjoyable," Dowden told the news source. "It's a good corporation, it's a good company and friendly workers."
The Pebble Beach company would not reveal the number of people it plans to take on full-time, although a representative said that people who work the tournament have a better chance of obtaining a job when there is an opening.
