Holiday hiring takes off to great start

With the holiday season approaching and shoppers already anticipating Black Friday, retailers, shipping companies, restaurants, craft stores, resorts and more are announcing their big hiring plans for the coming months. This year’s seasonal hiring numbers are the highest they’ve been since 2005, KTVQ reports.
Compared to 2011, 25 percent more hiring managers expect to hire seasonal workers, according to a recent survey by Snagajob. The job-finding website also found that hiring managers expect to bring in 50 percent more seasonal employees than they did last year. Snagajob determined that hiring managers are starting earlier this year, with more than half expecting to complete their hiring by the end of October.
While Macy’s expects to bring in roughly 80,000 seasonal employees, Toys R US announced it will hire 45,000 temporary workers this season, up 5,000 from last year. Target also recently announced it will welcome up to 90,000 seasonal employees this year.
Meanwhile, the virtual world is prepping for the holiday demand too. Online retailer Amazon is hiring for more than 50,000 seasonal workers, thousands of whom the company expects to turn into full-time employees.
