According to recent research by Futurestep, most recruiters want to make use of innovations in talent acquisition. However, only 27 percent of U.S. human resources professionals have access to budgets for research and development or new recruitment ideas. In an increasingly digital recruitment environment, many naturally aspire to leverage online communities and mobile technology to acquire talent, whether permanent or temporary workers.
While an in-house online recruiting system is likely to be beyond the reach of many companies, there are social media solutions that can help. Using LinkedIn, for example, is cost-effective and the website itself is optimized for mobile devices. Recruiters also reported they would like industry-specific online talent pools from which to draw. This can also be accomplished through existing channels.
Human resources administration professionals may wish to consider how their resources are allocated and whether some might be better used in the pursuit of innovation. It is clear that HR professionals have the desire to break new ground, but many find they lack the necessary resources to do so. A close look at budgets and how time is managed may point out opportunities otherwise overlooked.
