New York State to hire more veterans as contract workers

A new law issued in New York State gives veterans preference for state temporary jobs that would otherwise go to for-profit temporary staffing companies, according to a story by Staffing Industry.
The senator behind the bill, Greg Ball, explained in a press release that military workers can have trouble finding work once they leave their service jobs. By providing temporary work to them, they can have meaningful employment right away.
"This legislation will help alleviate some of the unemployment problems facing our military veterans and may help to usher in the next generation of the state's workforce," Ball says.
The government has many temporary jobs – from city level all the way to the federal government. Even national parks have temporary jobs. For one example, The Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota has begun hiring temp workers, and they are holding a career fair for interested parties, according to the Rapid City Journal.
Veterans, however, can apply for work at any temporary services firm. They don't need to go through the government to find temp jobs.
Temporary work is a great way for employees to get their foot in the door of a company, and it's a great way to get to know employees before a company hires them. By using an HR services company, all the paperwork and expenses associated with traditional workers goes out the window.
