Q3 hiring in Northeast trumps 2010 totals

The third quarter of 2011 was favorable to small- and medium-sized business in the Northeast, as shown in a recent CheckPoint HR statistical employment report. Researchers found that hiring in the area increased by 5.2 percent during the time period, an increase from 4.6 percent year-over-year.
According to the report, July, August and September hiring was predicated by an increase in on-boarding activities from companies in April, including job placements, background checks and W-4 and I-9 processing. Hires during that time look to have begun receiving payroll benefits during the third quarter.
"We saw job growth across the board during the third quarter of 2011," said Neil Friedman, CheckPoint HR CFO. He added that the retail sector saw some of the largest growth, which likely correlates to the hiring of temporary workers for the upcoming holiday season.
According to CareerBuilder's 2011 Q4 Job Forecast, 19 percent of employers in the Northeast plan to add staff during the time period. This number is slightly below the estimated nationwide average of 21 percent, but CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson noted that, in general, hiring tends to be slower during the fourth quarter.
