Temporary postal workers hired for holiday rush

A summer ratification to the American Postal Workers Union's contract extension through 2015 inserted language that allowed the postal service to add temporary workers, Staffing Talk reports.
A new section in the contract covers terms for "Postal Support Employees," or PSEs, which can be used in districts as a percentage of the total number of workers – typically around 10 or 20 percent.
"PSEs provide the Postal Service with lower costs and greater workforce flexibility," Mark Saunders, public relations representative for human resources, labor and stamps at USPS, told the news source. "As up to nearly 20 percent of the workforce ultimately may be PSEs, this significantly increases the number of lower cost, more flexible employees available to the Postal Service."
The upcoming holiday season acts as an ideal time to take advantage of the new development. The News Tribune reports that USPS is hiring temp workers at its mail processing facilities throughout the state of Washington to prepare for the rush.
Mailhandler and postal support employees clerk positions are available, as well as temporary tractor-trailer motor vehicle operator positions.
