Information technology job opportunities continue to grow, with a 5.7 percent year-over-year increase in June. The current number of IT employees in the U.S. is at a record high, according to the TechServe Alliance. This increase has been in progress since November 2011.
Many companies turn to staffing firms to satisfy their IT needs. According to the CEO of the TechServe Alliance, Mark Roberts, the issue in the U.S. is not a lack of demand but a lack of talent to fill open positions. This can be a problem for organizations that are in need of specialized talent. Hiring IT professionals as temporary workers can be a solution. If there is one big project that requires a lot of IT support, companies might consider hiring contract workers solely for the duration of the work.
Some workers do prefer to work temporary or contract jobs for personal reasons like a more flexible schedule or a desire to relocate often. These candidates and the companies that need them can find each other through quality staffing firms, which can then serve as the employer of record for tax and employee benefits management purposes. When the arrangement ends in a satisfied employee and a company gaining access to rare IT top talent, everyone wins.
