What workers want

With employee confidence hitting impressive numbers at the end of 2012, many workers are scoping out the job market and considering switching positions. According to The December 2012 Randstad Employment Tracker, more than one-third of U.S. workers plan to transition to a new job in 2013 and nearly half feel confident in their ability to find a new position.

As many businesses’ HR administration begins to face the talent crisis of being unable to identify potential new hires with the right skill set, CareerBuilder conducted a survey to determine what people want from their employer.

The job search website surveyed more than 3,900 full-time U.S. workers in November, and found they valued having a flexible schedule as the second most important factor for job satisfaction, second to salary. Nearly half of respondents wanted to be able to make a difference and more than one-third desired challenging work. Other important qualities included having the option to work from home, academic reimbursement and having an office.

Some additional perks workers value are half-day Fridays, have an on-site fitness center and the ability to wear jeans in the workplace.

The survey also found nearly one-third of top performers left their employer in 2012 and 39 percent were concerned their organization will lose valuable talent this year.
