According to a survey from Mom Corps, a flexible staffing firm, flexibility in a job is important to 73 percent of adults. The research, conducted by Harris Interactive, took the responses of 2,013 adults into account, of whom 886 were currently employed.
A similar survey conducted last year showed 61 percent of adults consider flexibility important in deciding whether to take a position. This year, 48 percent said they would consider taking on nontraditional employment as temporary or contract workers to achieve better work-life balance. Over half also said they would become more productive if they could work from home occasionally.
Flexibility is vital to some workers. In fact, 50 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 35 had considered leaving or left a job because it was not flexible enough. Forty-five percent of respondents of all ages said they would be willing to give up part of their salary for flexibility, as well.
The value of flexible scheduling to many workers is clear from this information. Many temporary workers cite this concern as the reason they are content in their positions. Contingent work can be ideal for people who need or prefer some flexibility in their day, whether due to life changes or other reasons.
